Why We Chose Dogs for Our 2048 Puzzle Game

Published 2026-08-02

2048 is one of the most recognizable puzzle games ever made — simple rules, endless replayability, and a addictive "just one more try" pull. When we set out to build our own version, we wanted to keep everything that makes 2048 great while adding something that made people smile.

Numbers Are Functional, Not Fun

The original 2048 uses plain numbered tiles, which work perfectly for the mechanics but don't give players much to connect with emotionally. We wanted merges to feel like a small reward, not just a math problem solving itself.

Why Dogs Specifically

Dogs are universally loved, instantly recognizable, and easy to tell apart at a glance — which matters a lot in a fast-paced sliding puzzle where you need to process the board quickly. Every merge in 2048 Dogs feels like leveling up a good boy, not just crunching a number.

Keeping the Core Mechanics Untouched

We didn't change how 2048 plays. The sliding, merging, and scoring rules are exactly what fans of the original expect — we only changed what's on the tiles. If you already know how to play 2048, you already know how to play 2048 Dogs.

What's Next

We're continuing to refine the game based on player feedback — see our Game Updates page for the latest changes, and don't hesitate to reach out with ideas.
