1. Moving Your Anchor Tile Out of Its Corner
Your highest-value tile should live in one corner for the whole game. The moment you move it away to grab a small merge, you lose the structure that makes the rest of the board manageable.
2. Using All Four Directions Freely
New players slide in whichever direction clears a merge. Stronger players restrict themselves to two directions as much as possible, which keeps tiles organized instead of scattered.
3. Chasing Every Merge You See
Not every available merge is worth taking. If a merge breaks your row or column order, skip it and make a move that keeps your board readable.
4. Letting the Board Fill Up Before Reacting
Waiting until you're down to one open space to think about board management is too late. Start prioritizing open space the moment your board feels crowded, not when it's already full.
5. Ignoring Small Tiles Until They Pile Up
Small tiles left unmerged for too long clog the spaces you need for bigger combinations. Clear them opportunistically instead of letting them accumulate.
6. Panicking Near a Loss
When the board looks dangerous, resist the urge to make random moves hoping something works out. Slow down and look for the one move that actually frees space.
7. Not Having a Pattern at All
Playing without any plan is the single biggest reason runs stall around the middle tiles. Even a simple corner strategy beats no strategy.
8. Building in Two Different Corners
Splitting your big tiles between two corners divides your board into two weaker halves instead of one strong one. Commit to a single corner.
9. Forgetting Where New Tiles Spawn
New tiles don't spawn where you want them. Play in a way that stays strong regardless of where the next tile lands, rather than counting on a lucky spawn.
10. Quitting a Recoverable Board Too Early
A crowded board isn't always a lost board. Before starting over, check whether a single smart move can open things back up.
